Wildlight Yoga To Open Subsequent Week In Portage Park – Block Membership Chicago
PORTAGE PARK — A new yoga studio featuring small pieces of Six Corners history is set to open next week.
Wildlight Yoga at 4140 N. Milwaukee Ave. will feature items from historic buildings in the Six Corners Shopping District. These include a chalkboard from the recently closed Sears and dressing rooms constructed from the Klee building’s original doors.
“We have about 45 classes a week with five different styles,” said Kelli Wefenstette, Wildlight Yoga’s owner. “And we have classes for people who have never practiced yoga before and provide all the mats and everything that you would need to participate. So all you would need is to get yourself there.”
The studio is aimed at the “wild at heart, wanderlusters, and modern day hippies,” according to a release.
Wefenstette says her studio’s design is inspired by her travels through youth hostels in eastern Europe, yurts in Thailand, Mayan ruins in Belize and the beaches of Costa Rica.
The styles being offered include Ashtanga, Hatha, Kundalini, Vinyasa and Yin yoga. Classes will also be offered for gentle or restorative yoga and for yoga while pregnant and post-birth.
One class costs $18. Wildlight has different packages and memberships available on an annual and monthly basis, Wefenstette said.
“We had about 65 people sign up to become founding members, so we have a lot of people who have already joined,” she said.
The studio’s grand opening is scheduled for Sept. 14. Online registration for classes is currently open and the first day of classes is Sept. 15.
